- From the computer of Kenny Hydock:
-
- Hello All - On Tuesday, I posted a request for some assistance in resurrecting
- an A1000 system that was given to me. After receiving some replies with some
- advice, I borrowed the CIA chips out of my trusty A500 and installed them in
- place of the suspected bad ones in the A1000.
-
- Turned it on - got the requestor for Kickstart disk. (Been there - Done that)
- Previously it would read the disk, flicker the screen like a reboot and lock
- up tight. Well - this time it did the screen flicker and up popped the
- Workbench 1.2 requestor! :) Popped in the Workbench disk and she began
- booting. (Watchting anxiously as the Dataflyer HD LED began to flicker)
- Before long, I had a nice workbench screen with all the icons showing that
- were supposed to be there. (Including an AMAX partition on the hard drive)
-
- Played around a bit with the thing and then powered it down, connected the
- AMAX and rebooted. Yep - it worked like a charm. :)
-
- Now I just have to figure out what I am going to do with this little jewel. I
- would like to know if there is any kind of 1.3 ROM upgrade for the A1000. I
- do have a Kickstart 1.3 disk, but the A1000 refuses to recognize it. With the
- potential this computer has, I would like to get it auto-booting if that's
- possible so my son can use it without the hassles of kickstart and workbench
- disks. (It will also keep him off my A3000 for the most part)
-
- Once again - Thanks very much to all the folks who replied to my request for
- help - Probably would still be looking for a replacement CPU to go along with
- all the add-ons.
-
- Amiga Lives!
-
- Regards - Kenny
